33pt | contributing to typography
Displaying the enthusiasm for type.

On Thursday 19th and Friday 20th of Jan 2006 „33pt – Beiträge zur Typografie“ took place at the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund. A number of international guests was invited to this forum of typography staged for the first time in Dortmund. They were asked to take a stand on the basis of modified lyrics such as “Love me tender, love my type” (O. Elvis P.). Common to all was the passion for letters, fort the work on and with typefont.

The object was an event on typography, which ought to go far beyond the frame of ex cathedra lecturing. Pre-eminent was the idea of communication and of interaction, the love for font was the motive providing impetus. Dirk Uhlenbrock disclosed secrets and showed some of his sketches. While doing this he charismatically substantiated his love and contempt for certain fonts. The actors Matthias Heße and Silvia Fink elated the audience with a reading of „Buchstabenspiel“ (letter-play) by Anton Schnack and the tea party with Herr Hemker and Frau Gerlach supplied a cozy atmosphere in the talk about type. Peter Bruhn, who had come with his wife Lotta Bruhn from Malmö, gave a thorough insight on his work of his hotbed for type Fountain. Filip Blazek from Prague contributed a film on „Fonts like violence, break the silence“ exclusively produced for 33pt. Peter Bilak managed to enchant the audience with poetical short film sequences and photography. The members of Underware and Typeradio had invited DJ Loudmouth as Special Guest, who crowned the event’s final with a rap on „Fight for your right to type“.-

The different fields of work presented by the participants showed both a wide and enthralling area of application for type.

The accompanying programme too was convincing. The free of charge natural food buffet supplied a tasty and healthy catering. Most of the guests enjoyed this opportunity to refresh their batteries. The auditorium was always packed, the audience was concentrated and listened interested.

We thank all the speakers, professionals and guests for their contribution!
